Waiting
for Superman is a documentary about the public school system and reformers
who wanted to
change the teachers union and Enron is about the rise and
fall of Enron back in 2002. I think the two movies are similar in trying
to inform the viewer about the issues.
Both films
use the power of music and dramatic lightening to enhance the mood of the
film. The music and lightening encourage the viewer to have sympathy
towards the documentary. For example in Enron, they play music in
the background to let them know how bad or even evil Len Lovy, Jeffrey Skilling
and Andrew Fasto are. That they were the ones responsible for loss of
billions of dollars and the 20,000 employees loss of pensions, retirement funds
and jobs. In the film Waiting for Superman the music and lighting
enhance the poverty students in New York City, helping the viewer feel the
parents frustration with the public school system.
I also
think both movies are political. That in Waiting for Superman I
get the impression they are trying to prove that the Democrats are in coheres
with teachers unions. In Enron the film expresses that the
Bush administration was involved with deregulating the energy in
California.
Hi, Suzanne; good job comparing and contrasting both films. you really only needed to pick one thing to talk about, but now you have a lot of good ideas for your analysis essay. I especially liked your points about music and lighting. Just be sure to extend these points to concepts like logos, pathos, and ethos that we have been talking about in class. Good work! 10/10 -Amy
